Sakara was opened in Higashiyama, Kyoto in 2010, and has since received thousands of guests from both Japan and overseas. The design of our original inn was insprired by the owners' experience of renovating traditional machiya buildings. We wanted to share the traditional style of Kyoto with visitors, combining modern comforts with the traditional Kyoto machiya design.

The name Sakara was chosen based on the theme "comfortable and traditional". The characters in the name signify cherry blossoms, fragrant aromas, and comfort. Sakara Gion was the first Kyoto-based accommodation facility without a front desk, exclusively available as a private machiya accommodation.

In 2017, We opened Sakara Miyazu in Miyazu Amanohashidate, one of Japan's Three Most Scenic Spots. It is a facility specializing in accommodation not only to comfortably welcome Japanese guests, but also those coming from abroad.

We will continue to share the traditional Japanese architectural design and style that has been passed down in Kyoto from past generations, and strive to spread the charm of Kyoto and Japan to a wide range of guests from all over the world, especially family and group travelers.
